AnnoLab provides an XML-based framework for working with data annotated by multiple layers. Each layer is represented in a XML document which are connected to the data via stand-off references.

The framework is written in Java 1.5. It can use Apache UIMA to run linguistic processing chains. Data can be stored in an eXist native XML database.
